Pain Management
Spondylolisthesis occurs when one vertebra slips forward over the one below it, most commonly in the lower back (lumbar spine). This slippage can compress nerves and cause chronic lower back pain, stiffness, muscle spasms, or radiating pain into the legs (sciatica).
Pain management for spondylolisthesis focuses on reducing discomfort, improving mobility, and enhancing quality of life—especially in mild to moderate cases where surgery is not immediately required.
Common Symptoms Needing Pain Management:
- Persistent lower back pain
- Pain worsened by standing, walking, or bending backward
- Leg pain, tingling, or numbness
- Muscle tightness or spasms in the back and hamstrings
- Difficulty performing daily activities or prolonged sitting
Do’s for Pain Relief
- Stay active with gentle movement and walking
- Follow your exercise and physiotherapy plan
- Use correct sitting and sleeping posture
- Take medications exactly as prescribed
- Track triggers that worsen your symptoms
Don’ts During Pain Management
- Avoid bed rest for more than a couple of days—it weakens muscles
- Don’t lift heavy weights or twist your spine
- Avoid ignoring nerve-related symptoms like numbness or weakness
- Don’t self-medicate or stop medications suddenly
- Avoid high-impact sports or sudden jerky movements
