Nerve Root Block

A Nerve Root Block is a minimally invasive injection procedure used to diagnose and treat pain caused by an inflamed or compressed spinal nerve. It is most commonly recommended in cases of disc prolapse, spinal stenosis, or nerve irritation that leads to radiating pain in the neck, back, arms, or legs. The procedure delivers a combination of a local anesthetic and a steroid (anti-inflammatory) medication near the affected nerve root to reduce inflammation and provide pain relief.

Benefits of Nerve Root Block:

  • Targeted pain relief
  • Helps avoid or delay surgery
  • Confirms the exact source of nerve pain
  • Quick, outpatient procedure with minimal downtime
  • Can aid in faster return to daily activities

Procedure Overview:

  • The patient lies in a comfortable position, and the injection area is cleaned and numbed.
  • Using X-ray or ultrasound guidance, a thin needle is directed close to the affected nerve.
  • A mixture of local anesthetic and steroid medication is injected.
  • The patient is observed briefly and can usually return home the same day.
